dude:

Why is 0!=1?

sillybilly123:

well, make a case for 0! = 7 or 0! = 24 or..... a load of this stuff is just our all agreeing upon definitions, as in the rules of the game. it's like the move from Real Numbers to Complex Numbers; and we import as much as we can. So, absent the history of math, what does n ! mean ?!

dude:

\[ n!=n(n-1)...2·1. \]

sillybilly123:

sure :)

sillybilly123:

so set n = 0

sillybilly123:

or, actually, within your example, set n = 2: it is guaranteed to look silly

dude:

\[2!=2\cdot1\]

sillybilly123:

copying your example: \(n!=n(n-1)...2·1.\) \(2!=2(2-1)...2·1. = ??\) Nah :(

sillybilly123:

Write it out properly, to start with

sillybilly123:

Thing is, the symbol is a definition. These symbols have no real historical pedigree. How old is the equal sign? Who invented it?

dude:

Oh

sillybilly123:

see this: brilliant !! https://questioncove.com/study#/updates/5a233a2558229c86e96b9800

sillybilly123:

Richard Recorde, I think, is the answer

sillybilly123:

Oooops: Robert Recorde

dude:

Thank you!

sillybilly123:

TU!!!

dude:

What does "TU" mean? x'D

sillybilly123:

it means LOL ....

sillybilly123:

sorta

sweetburger:

why does 2^0 = 1?

sweetburger:

: )

sillybilly123:

same reason :)
