lolokrat:

Given the following three mRNA sequences, determine which two code for the same protein. mRNA #1: Transcript: AGU UUA GCA ACG AGA UCA Translate: mRNA #2: Transcript: UCG CUA GCG ACC AGU UCA Translate: mRNA #3: Transcript: AGC CUC GCC ACU CGU AGU Translate:

Vocaloid:

|dw:1542169206421:dw| unfortunately this is very tedious but I can show you how it's done using the first example

Vocaloid:

using MRNA1: AGU --> first letter is A, so we go to the A row in the chart second letter is G --> so the 4th column then last letter is U --> Ser is the amino acid you want then repeat with the other codons

Vocaloid:

you need to know this method for exams but as a time-saver there is software that will accomplish this for you https://skaminsky115.github.io/nac/DNA-mRNA-Protein_Converter.html

Vocaloid:

still there? any attempts on the next codon, UUA?

lolokrat:

sorry, my wifi cut out. yes, i am familiar with this method but the way it was worded confused me a little. @Vocaloid

lolokrat:

UUA-leu GCA-ala ACG-thr AGA-arg UCA-ser

Vocaloid:

yup good, then you gotta check the others, too unfortunately

lolokrat:

yeah, i did them

lolokrat:

one thing i dont understand though is the point mutation, substitution, frameshift, insertion, or deletion

lolokrat:

if theres a stop in an amino acid do i not continue writing down the rest of the amino acids?

Vocaloid:

yes if you get a stop codon, that's where the protein will detach

lolokrat:

ok

lolokrat:

thanks so much for your help! sorry for the late reply, again
