I’ve heard that some English translations of the Christian bible have mistranslated penis to feet in several places. Does anyone know if this is true and can you provide sources? This isn’t for any class just trying to figure out facts
I would say that's very possible. Both feet and penises are mentioned in the Bible quite frequently, and the original language has lots of different words for these body parts. It's also commonly known that a lot of the translations of the Bible are inaccurate because of how many times it's been translated over and over again. Who knows if the translating between foot and penis was an accident, or perhaps on purpose to "protect" the kid audience in churches? That would be an interesting debate. I've found one blog that brought up the idea so far https://anniegirl1138.com/2011/02/07/when-is-a-foot-really-a-penis-and-other-things-the-bible-taught-me/ I also think this can apply for hands as well, but I don't know enough about the topic to make that assumption
I know there are other inaccuracies in the current translations thank you so much for providing your insight and a source
There definitely is! But it is a tough subject to talk about sometimes. Especially when it comes to the era when religion was manipulated to control people. If you want any more insight or help, just let me know!
This is a subject I’m pretty much constantly interested in. I enjoy learning about how languages develop over time and learning about inaccuracies in translations is how I woke up from a cult. I’m hoping to learn as much as possible about this
That is a really interesting thing to study. You should definitely look into it more! Also, look into how those inaccurate translations affected society and law, it's pretty interesting! Some of the inaccurate translations were on purpose but most were on accident
Yeah it’s one of my quarantine hobbies since I can’t work rn
