unknown102920:

A bet between friends results in a coin toss. If the coin is tossed from a height of 1.3m and had a hang time of 1.7s. What was the initial velocity of the coin? How high did the coin go?

jhonyy9:

@imqwerty can you solve this ?

imqwerty:

|dw:1604255090744:dw| use these equations.

unknown102920:

yea umm thankkuuu but the thing is i literaly have no idea how to do this problem at all like can u explain hoe to do it and show how u got the answer

unknown102920:

how*

imqwerty:

the yellow circle is the ball, which is thrown upwards with an initial velocity of \(u\) m/s (an unknown value) and from a height of 1.3m

imqwerty:

it travels a distance \(x\) meters and then finally reaches the top point (marked as red) where it's velocity drops to 0 and then the ball starts falling down.

imqwerty:

assume \(t_1\) = time taken to reach top most point from initial position \(t_2\) = time taken to drop to the initial position from top most position \(t_3\) = time taken to further drop from initial position to ground

imqwerty:

you know that: \(t_1 + t_2 + t_3 = 1.7\) use this and everything that i told above to figure out \(t_1\) . once you have \(t_1\) it's easy to find \(u\)

imqwerty:

hint: \(t_1 = t_2\)
