A raccoon resting peacefully is suddenly scared from a loud noise causing it to accelerate at a rate of 2.3 m/s/s. The raccoon runs a whole 18 m away how fast was the raccoon going when it reached the 18 m mark?

The kinematic eqn we will use is the time-independent equation, because we don't have the quantity of time related in this problem The equation is: \[Vf^2 =Vi^2 +2a \Delta d\] We know that \[Vi = 0\] \[a = 2.3m/s/s\] \[d = 18m\] Now plug in those values to the equation and solve for \[Vf\] Remember that the equation on the right is equal to Vf^2 so you have to square root the eqn on the right to solve for Vf. To check your work, you should do a unit analysis, and see if your final answer is in m/s
