Write about how psychologists today would describe the human memory system. Include the concepts of encoding, sensory memory, short-term memory, long-term memory, rehearsal, storage, and retrieval.

Any ideas?

dgreer4:

Encoding is the initial learning of something. An example would be gaining the ability to speak. Sensory memory is a very short-term memory lasting about as long as real-time. If you touch something, your sensory memory will only last as long as you touch that thing. Short-term memory is the ability to retain information for a short amount of time, while long-term memory is the ability to retain and control information for a long amount of time. Rehearsal is the practice of something over and over again in order to learn it. For example, you could keep trying to ride a bike until you finally get it. Storage is the brain's ability to store memories for later retrieval. Retrieval is bringing your memories into cognition. (I think that would be the answer for this but I'm not 100% sure.)
