After getting 5 new rocks, George gave half of his rock collection to Susan. If George gave Susan 36 rocks, which equation could be used to determine how many rocks George started with? One-half x = 36 + 5 One-half (x minus 5) = 36 One-half (x + 5) = 36 One-half x + 5 = 36

supie:

What do you think the answer is?

supie:

We can eliminate A btw. Now we are between B, C, and D.

ScamTheMan:

First we decipher the information. We know that George got 5 new rocks. We know that after receiving new rocks, he gave half his collection away. We know that the amount of rocks George gave was 36. We know that x is being used to define the rocks he already had. Using this information we can tell that after receiving new rocks, the equation is set up like this: (x+5) To find out what's half of georges collection, we can times his collection by 1/2 or divide by 2. Creating this equation: 1/2(x+5) And finally, we know that the amount of rocks given was 36, making our answer: 1/2 ( x + 5 ) = 36

ScamTheMan:

Or one half (x+5) = 36

supie:

Did you actually do that or did you copy?

ScamTheMan:

Do you think I'm not capable of formulating correct in depth answers 💀💀? Yes I did it myself, I was writing for like 9 years. If you need proof, just check my profile. I answer all the math questions with indepth explanations.

supie:

Oh ok nice job! Great explanation!
