This page https://www.thoughtco.com/war-hawks-basics-1773402 says `The War Hawks cited multiple tensions between the two 19th-century powerhouses as arguments for war. Tensions included violations that the British committed regarding U.S. maritime rights, the effects of the Napoleonic Wars, and lingering animosity from the Revolutionary War. ` it then goes on to say in the next paragraph `At the same time, the western frontier was feeling pressure from Indigenous peoples, who formed an alliance to stop the encroachment of White settlers. The War Hawks believed that the British were financing Indigenous tribes in their resistance, which only incentivized them to declare war against Great Britain even more.`

The British were still upset by the American Revolution (when the colonists broke off from England), so that was a big looming factor. The British were harassing US ships by restricting trade and they forcefully recruited American sailors to work on British ships. This practice is known as "impressment". Not only that, but many people feared that the western frontier was a weak point due to the fact that Native Americans were joining on the British side. So these were the main factors for the war.

Morally what was Madison's reason for why he was with the war?
The fact the British were forcing sailors into service was one big reason James Madison and Henry Clay wanted to go to war.
The main reason for the war was bc of Britain's tightening rules on neutral trade, and the British policy of impressment was particularly galling to Americans. Other reason are impressment of its sailors, the seizing of its ships, and the belief the British were fomenting Indian rebellions on the Northwest frontier. All of these were sufficient reasons to go to war.
