It officially emerged around 1830. Historians believe ideas set forth during the religious movement known as the Second Great Awakening inspired abolitionists to rise up against slavery. this could start us off with slavery abolition in the 1800s -google

Welcome to QC (: Hmm, yeah, so i'm gonna link another site for you to use but to help kinda explain: "Portuguese exploration of the west coast of Africa beginning in 1420, however, created an interest in slavery in the recently formed colonies of North America, South America, and the West Indies, where the need for plantation labour generated an immense market for slaves." So these people were being brought over to work the plantations. Now, this went on for quite some time. Then, around the 18th century, people began to have mixed feelings about the topic, seeing as it was in violation of many human rights. "Despite its brutality and inhumanity, the slave system aroused little protest until the 18th century, when rationalist thinkers of the Enlightenment began to criticize it for its violation of the rights of man, and Quaker and other evangelical religious groups condemned it for its un-Christian qualities. By the late 18th century, moral disapproval of slavery was widespread, and antislavery reformers won a number of deceptively easy victories during this period." Once people began to kind of realize hey, this isn't right, why are people being treated this way, and then they began to stand up for those people. As this topic became more discussed, more "political" figures took action to. Fast forward quite some time, and we are at the end of the Civil War. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed and this document is credited as ending slavery. This was not the only thing to end slavery, but it did play a significant role in doing so. Site I used: https://www.britannica.com/topic/abolitionism-European-and-American-social-movement Also, the site that someone else linked above has some good explanations if you need more clarity (:
