McKenzie runs 1.5 mi every 10 min. At this rate, how many miles does she run in 1 hour?
We have the ratio 1.5 miles : 10 minutes We can multiply both parts of this ratio by some number, lets call it x, to turn the "10 minutes" into "60 minutes". What should x be?
Thanks!
What did you get for x?
Well, because you turned 10 into 60 you multiplied it by 6, so I did that to the 1.5 and got 9. But what do I do now?
That's correct. 1.5 miles: 10 minutes 6*(1.5 miles) : 6*(10 minutes) 9 miles : 60 minutes 9 miles : 1 hour She runs 9 miles in 1 hour So her speed is 9 miles per hour (mph)
Ok great thanks for helping me!
No problem
