Mochi:

Lyndsay must purchase four new tires for her van. She finds a deal where she can buy two tires for regular price and get two more tires free. The price of one tire is $71.09. Labor is included in the deal, but there is a 6.5% sales tax. What is the total cost for Lyndsay to replace her tires? A. $151.42 B. $132.94 C. $284.36 D. $142.18

Extrinix:

ok so each tire is 71.09, thats 142.18

Extrinix:

then if each tire has labor included, that keeps the price at 142.18

Extrinix:

now each tire has a 6.5% sales tax, so doing 142.18 / 6.5 would give you the amount of sales tax that the tires cost

Extrinix:

have* not cost - now multiply that cost by 2 and add that answer to your $142.18 and you should have your answer

Mochi:

I'm still a little lost...

Extrinix:

where at?

Mochi:

What am I multiplying? I did 142.18 / 6.5 and I got a way off answer, so I am a little confused.

Angle:

the 142.18 was correct but to account for sales tax, you want to convert 6.5% into a decimal

Extrinix:

sorry read that wrong* and yes what Angle stated just now

Angle:

6.5% = 0.065 so the total cost will be: 142.18 x 1.065

Mochi:

Thank you very much

Extrinix:

or \(\color{lime}{\text{71.09(4) x 1.065 - 71.09(2)}}\) if you have my brain for making things complex like i do hehe

Angle:

you're just gonna confused them like that

Extrinix:
