Trans-Aerospace Industries has just begun a multimillion-dollar project. It has a team of 15 engineers working on 6 different components of a new jet they would like to launch in 2015. For this project, they have hired 1 lead engineer, 3 supervisors, and 11 certified PEs. Why is it justifiable to have this large a team with such a management structure? There are a variety of scientific, political, legal, and ethical considerations involved that will require a large team of engineers to satisfy. Having a manager and supervisor ensures effective interactions so that the different aspects of the project do not fall off track. Projects are cyclical and will require a large team to follow a project to completion. Each engineer will be assigned to a different phase in the seven phases of the design process.
