We can use process of elimination on a problem like this one... Let's think about what might happen in each scenario A. Birth rate would make the graph increase, while a death rate would make the graph decrease. B. emigration makes the graph decrease as the population leaves the area, death would also make the graph decrease C. the prey and predator populations might be equal, but perhaps a predator needs to eat 5 prey animals in order to not starve? D. if there is an abundance of food, the prey population should increase

Here is also a fun youtube video I've watched in my spare time that relates to your topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRTtlpD_U54

Angle:

They also have another video about natural selection that has better animations and less math formulas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZGbIKd0XrM

Razor:

Thanks! I was having a hard time figuring it out. I got stuck on D and B, thinking that maybe emigration or prey had something to do with it. But D definitely makes more sense since food is needed to increase a general population. Again, thanks! <3

Angle:

WAIT hold up it's not D

Angle:

D would mean there is increase in the graph we can see at point A that it is at a horizontal which means that it is neither increasing nor decreasing

Razor:

Ohhh - - - the way you worded that before I looked at the graph made me think D and I almost pressed it without looking again to be sure - oops.

Razor:

That would mean it's - I kinda skipped this lesson btw - but... I'm assuming with more context - C..eeee.... Now I'm not sure - I think

Let's think about what might happen in each scenario increase and a decrease means they cancel out and the graph doesn't change in height A. Birth rate would make the graph increase, while a death rate would make the graph decrease. decrease and another reason to decrease means the graph goes down B. emigration makes the graph decrease as the population leaves the area, death would also make the graph decrease this should mean the prey population decreases C. the prey and predator populations might be equal, but perhaps a predator needs to eat 5 prey animals in order to not starve? this should mean the prey population increases D. if there is an abundance of food, the prey population should increase \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\)

Angle:

I added a sentence in front of each that explains what should happen to the graph due to each situation

Razor:

Well it's not A or B because there was no decrease in the graph at all. And it's not D because - you said it wasn't D - and the graph hasn't increased any further past A. So it's definitely C this time - I hope. It might just be my eyes playing tricks on my but I for some reason see a slight dip on the end of the Arrow for point A.

Angle:

"increase and a decrease means they cancel out and `the graph doesn't change in height` A. Birth rate would make the graph increase, while a death rate would make the graph decrease."

Angle:

you really gonna make me quote myself again
