Tattyspur:

A baseball is traveling (+20 m/s) and is hit by a bat. It leaves the bat traveling (−30 m/s). What is the change in the velocity? Remember that direction is what makes velocity different than speed. 50 m/s 30 m/s 20 m/s 10 m/s

Tattyspur:

i think its 50 m/s but i may be wrong

AZ:

Yes, that's correct! The change in velocity is going to be final velocity - initial velocity

Tattyspur:

ok thank you so much :)

jhonyy9:

\[\Delta v = v_{2} -v_{1}\]

AZ:

What Jhonyy said. I want to add that it would be -50 m/s But in this question, they're not interested in the negative value, they just want to know HOW MUCH it changed. (Which is why you don't see any negative 50 or any negative answers) But in future questions especially if you're using any formula, make sure to not forget the negative sign because that will change the final answer you get
