AZ:

similar thing but do you see how we now have one circle that is completely blue and the other one is empty and has a white center?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

yep

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

is it 3, -3 and 3, -3?

AZ:

so when we have the COLORED full blue circle, that means we use a [ or ] for that side but for the other side that is EMPTY we have to use a ( or )

AZ:

that's because the shaded full solid blue tells us to INCLUDE that point so we use this [ or ] but an empty circle tells us to not include it so we have to use ( or )

AZ:

so like let's take it one step at a time and I'll show you which one to use where where does the x-values begin from and end up where?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

im not sure

AZ:

what's the left most x-value and what's the x-value that's all the way to the right

AZ:

(we're talking about the line)

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

-6 to 3

AZ:

Good!! So we have -6 to 3 now remember -6 is a smaller number than 3 so it would have to be -6, 3 but now we have to figure out whether we begin it with ( or [ like [-6, 3 or (-6, 3 so does -6 have a full shaded circle or an empty one?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

[-6, 3]

AZ:

be careful! that 3 has an empty circle it's white and not a solid blue color so that means it has to end with ) so it would be \( \Large [-6, 3) \) do you understand

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

oh i see no lol

AZ:

okay, now what about your range what is the lowest y-value the graph reaches? and what is the highest y-value that the graph reaches

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

[2, -3)

AZ:

mhmm now quite what is the lowest y-value that you see in the graph? and the highest y-value?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

im not sure

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

im really not sure

AZ:

the range is everything in between the red it's all the possible y-values of the graph so what's the highest y-value possible and the lowest one?

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

[3, -3)

AZ:

Almost except you switched it! remember, we want the smaller number first and then the bigger number and -3 is a smaller number than 3 (since it's negative) so we have something like -3, 3

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

(-3, 3]

AZ:

now does -3 have a solid blue circle or an empty circle? and yeah, you got it!!

AZ:

Well done :)

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @iuytyuioiuytyuiop (-3, 3] \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) you mis-typed it in your answer box in the screenshot

AZ:

you said it correct here- it's (-3, 3] you accidentally switched it when you were inputting your final answer

iuytyuioiuytyuiop:

thanks
