"The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax."—Twenty-fourth Amendment What was the effect of this amendment? It stopped states from preventing former slaves and poor people from voting. It stopped any state from disallowing women to vote in national elections. It allowed any state to charge a fee to someone who wished to vote. It allowed states to limit who could vote by age, gender, or race.

@TheRealBloodBaby We can just look at one piece of evidence and make a whole guess that should be 100% correct. "shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax." I'm thinking before the 24th Amendment was passed people had to pay a poll tax fee to be able to vote. In the evidence, it even states "shall not be denied " and "by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax." So the 24th Amendment must have been a law passed that declared that no citizen in any state in the (United States) would have to ever pay a poll tax to vote and that governors etc (those of higher power in any state) could not force citizens to pay any poll tax. Based on this before the 24th Amendment was passed, poll taxes was kinda just made for those of wealthy status in the united states to be in full power of voting. So the 24th Amendment made It to were those of lower class-(poor people) in the united states were eligible to vote without paying, this would go along with former slaves that were un-wealthy or being taxed bc of the color of their skin having access t vote without pay. We would need to find that answer option that looks similar to the (Main idea) answer we came up with that is above. I think we can cross off answer options D and C We would cross off D bc the 24 Amendment states nothing about age or race in general, and we could cross off C bc it's vise versa of the main idea we came up with about the 24th Amendment. Now, we are left with answer options B and A Now the 24th Amendment doesn't really state anything specific about the (gender) of a person being a factor of if they could vote or not-so we can cross off answer option B This leaves answer option A the correct answer,it is the correct answer bc it's most similar to the answer we came up with. It talks about how poor people could now vote, and how former slaves could now vote too and not be taxed for the reasons. So ye ur Answer is A.) It stopped states from preventing former slaves and poor people from voting. (The 24th Amendment basically stopped all taxing for voting) Link u can check out : http://www.americaslibrary.gov/jb/modern/jb_modern_polltax_1.html
