help please(ss below)

xXQuintonXx:

jhonyy9:

write 6x+5=3x+13 and solve this for x

xXQuintonXx:

9x+18?

xXQuintonXx:

like that?

jhonyy9:

like a first step subtract from both sides 3x

jhonyy9:

6x-3x+5=3x-3x+13

kittybasil:

But, \(6x+5\ne3x+13\)? Those are not equal angles. No?

xXQuintonXx:

so would i subtract the one with the 6 or 3 on the left side?

kittybasil:

Aren't they supplementary angles?

jhonyy9:

these are - wan be angles measures ? i ve thought are line segments

kittybasil:

I see why there is confusion. I also don't know for sure though. Doesn't seem like enough information to tell us how to solve for line segment. Instead - I think it's this.

xXQuintonXx:

e.e the confusion

kittybasil:

are you currently covering angles or segments, Quinton?

xXQuintonXx:

xXQuintonXx:

i forgot how to do this stuff

jhonyy9:

so then you can write 6x +5 = 180 -(3x+13)

kittybasil:

Ah, it's angles. OK, then we know for sure. See my previous image, the two angles added equal 180 degrees. Now, follow Jhon's instructions 😊

in this way make more sense

ight

jhonyy9:

@jhonyy9 wrote:
so then you can write 6x +5 = 180 -(3x+13)
use this to calcule the x value

xXQuintonXx:

so i have to multiply something with 6 to make 180 right? and then do the stuff in the parthasese's

kittybasil:

what he means is\[(6x+5)+(3x+13)=180\]but he moved one of those parentheticals to the other side is all. I am just rephrasing it in LaTeX for easier reading but refer to his tips. :P

xXQuintonXx:

so i have to get a number that would have it so that x would be able to be multiplied by 6 and 3 so that you can add 18 to get 180?

kittybasil:

The gist of this is to solve for \(x\) which means you need to isolate it. Like, get \(x=?\) in the end result.

xXQuintonXx:

ik but i would have to get it so that i could equal 180 at the end right?

kittybasil:

Well yes. Do you know where to go from here or would you like more details?

xXQuintonXx:

i think i have a good idea of it now

kittybasil:

Okay. Just in case though I will give you a head start tip.\[6x+5+3x+13=180\]\[6x+3x+5+13=180\]\[9x+18=180\]Hope that helps ☺

xXQuintonXx:

x=18

xXQuintonXx:

right?

kittybasil:

...wait what?

xXQuintonXx:

im like 99% sure i did this wrong now lol

kittybasil:

Nah I was working through it using the stuff I typed. You right my man

xXQuintonXx:

so x = 18

kittybasil:

Yep, wolfram said you're right!

kittybasil:

Just so you have an actual verified check and not me spouting random nonsense. :p

xXQuintonXx:

all i did was multiply 18 with 6 and 3 then added 18 XD

xXQuintonXx:

sence 15+3=18

Well, not sure what you did but this is the gist of what the steps should look like. Then moving on it would be\[9x=180-18\]\[9x=162\]\[x=162\div9=18\]And there's your answer. Is that how you got it?
