Consider what the American Dream might look like for a person of color, a woman in the 1920s, a person living in poverty, or through the perspective of a family values. The American Dream is the idea that the government should protect each person's opportunity to pursue their idea of happiness. What do you guys think the American Dream would look like for a person of color, a woman in the 1920s and now, someone living in poverty, or through the perspective of family values? I'd like some people to bounce ideas off of if possible

crispyrat:

Hmm, idk if this is good or not but The American Dream is the idea of how the government should protect one's happiness however the situation in the 1920's or rn for minorities did not live up to that. The people most likely have become disillusioned with it and thinks its a sham, along with that they probably hold a grudge against the people in the positions of power due to the failing of the dream.

MrMudd183:

What are some ideas you have for the American Dream of women between the two time periods?

Razor:

That's the thing - I don't really have many. I think my previous idea was; Women then wanted to prove they could obtain fame and fortune through hard work or marrying the right person of a higher status - even pursue happiness without being tied to the idea that they were REQUIRED to be a housewife. Women now pursue the idea of an activist, happiness via gender equality/female representation/equal rights - though in a more extreme manner. No?

maybe but do to the social climate and ideas in the 1920's perhaps women wanted to be housewifes and that to them was the american dream?

These are good, I'd go with them. What I'd also do is try to add some key events from the time periods to help strengthen both claims/ideas so it helps enhance the writing as well.

Razor:

Atm I'm not working on the essay itself, rather the outline. But I want to decide on which perspective/lens I want to look through before I just go with it now. Do you guys have any comments on how the dream would look through the lens of a poor man or a colored person or even family values - as in breaking free from the tradition of this family of blacksmiths to be a chef

MrMudd183:

If written in the right order or structured the correct way, it could help improve the essay.

Razor:

That's not my issue though. Lol. I need perspectives - how you think it'd look for this or this type of person

Inc:

Could I give my insight on part of this question?

Razor:

Yes.

Inc:

I would say the American dream of a person of color would be to, get treated fairly and equally. They'd also would like segregation to come to a end. They would've liked to be able to have the same things as the white people did.

Inc:

Would you like More?

Razor:

If it's no bother, yeah I'd appreciate further insight

Inc:

Of the same thing or a different person?

Razor:

Anything works - go right ahead. I just want to gather as much from what other people think before I start writing

Inc:
