AlexisR:

can sumone help me complete this correctly on this math equations y=2*(x-1)*(x+3) y=2x-2*2x+6 2^2-4x+6 but supposedly the correct answer is 2^2+4x-6 how do i get to that? where did i go wrong?

snowflake0531:

Well if it's \(2(x-1)(x+3)\) that equals \((2x-2)(x+3)\) Simplify that and you'll get the correct answer

Vocaloid:

Be very careful with parentheses. You dropped the parentheses around (x-1) after you distributed the 2, but in this case you can’t, because the whole quantity is still being multiplied by (x+3) You need to use foil to expand the product of (2x-2)(x+3) Tbh I would actually recommend leaving the 2 outside and just using foil on (x-1)(x+3) to make the arithmetic easier
