Hiya! This is a short story I wrote. . . idk, a long time ago. The Tale of The Leaves In a forest in Russia, it was a windy day and the leaves of the trees were swaying as if in a trance. They had all sorts of colors on them from golden to blood red to pumpkin orange. All of them but one. The only tree without colorful leaves was named Pine. The other trees made her the target of all their jokes. Constantly nagging at her about her needle-like leaves. Pine always kept a straight face and tried to laugh at the jokes made about her. At night, however, despite her impassiveness, she would cry her eyes out until little puddles swam around her. She thought that this would continue for her whole long life until, one night, a wizard walked into the forest looking for some fungi and moss. His plum-colored robe swished around him with a rustle as the wind rushed through the trees. With the wind came the soft whimpers of Pine. The wizard, who was able to understand the language of trees, followed the soft weeping until he reached Pine. He looked at her and asked, “Why are you crying?”. “Because every day I am made fun of by my friends,” she replied between sobs. “Go to sleep young one. You do not have anything to worry,” the wizard assured her. Pine heeded the wizard's words and promptly closed her eyes. Early in the next morning, as the sun’s first rays began to warm the air, Pine woke to the sounds of the trees around her screaming and shouting. Pine looked around to find out what the commotion was about. On the ground around the trees were their beautiful rainbow-colored leaves. Pine looked at her own branches expecting hers to be gone as well. To her surprise, she saw that her leaves were right where they should be. A while after, when the sun had almost reached its zenith, the wizard returned. He had a sly grin on his face as he walked up to Pine. When the trees saw the wizard they went silent. He continued walking until he reached Pine. Pine looked at the wizard and asked, in her quiet voice, “Did you curse their leaves off?”. “Yes,” replied the wizard “I did it in hope that it would show all of them that they must not make fun of others because they are different from themselves. I did it to them to show them how to be humble and not vain.”. “Oh, but they are so sad,” said Pine. “Isn’t there some way that you can let them keep their leaves?” (continued in the comment section)
“Well, yes, I suppose,” said the wizard as he stroked his beard, “Are you sure that you want them to get their leaves back?”. As the wizard said this all of the trees around Pine seemed to lean in and their branches clung together as if in prayer. “Yes, I am sure,” replied Pine. The wizard nodded and with a few waves of his hands he had made the trees’ leaves reappear. All of the trees withdrew their branches from each other and waved them as if Pine and the wizard were their heroes. “I have returned their leaves; however, every year, at Fall time, they will fall off again as a reminder not to be arrogant,” he said. Ever since that day the trees never bothered Pine about her leaves again, and when Fall came Pine would reassure and comfort them that their leaves would be back again in the spring.
