SirDipper:

Lately i've been working on recreating a renaissance painting of cherubs and im not sure how much i like the background but here (: some feedback of maybe how i could make it look darker and more run down would be very helpful. (p.s im using acrylic paints not oil paints so it doesnt look as good)

SirDipper:

i messed up a bit on the right side and ive been trying to fix it ;-;

SmokeyBrown:

In the top right corner, I think I see the shape of a blue bear smoking a joint. Jokes aside, I think it looks good. I mean, those definitely look like clouds in the sky to me!

SirDipper:

lmao that definitely makes me feel better about it, i just want to kind of make it look more grainy if that makes sense, and everything need to be darkened. i was thinking about soaking my canvas in coffee and baking it but ive already painted it so idk how thatd turn out |:

Astrid1:

I like it, good job so far! And this is being honest o:

Those are some interesting techniques you describe! Probably don't bake a canvas that has paint on it though, you might release some harmful chemicals into the air

SirDipper:

yes indeed, ive seen methods where you soak paper in coffee and bake it which i find very fun but ive never tried it with a canvas, im not sure if you really need to bake the canvas. of course an alternative could just be watering down some dark browns so i might just try that.

SmokeyBrown:

Oh that's true, I've heard of doing that with paper, but I'm not sure if the same would apply for canvas. It's different materials, so would the canvas burn or even melt? Hmmm might need to do some more research before considering that

SirDipper:

thats a good point, i just looked and it says that usually the natural fibers in the canvas are flame or heat *resistant* but that also depends on the type of canvas you use. As well as baking acrylics, it depends but im not sure how my paints or such would react so ill probably just stay away from that

SmokeyBrown:

That's alright, even if you just use your acrylic paints to touch up the painting, I'm sure it'll turn out looking good. I'm interested to see how it'll look when the cherubs are there!

SirDipper:

me too ha- ill definitely post some updates on how it turns out

SmokeyBrown:

Too bad there aren't any other painters on here, they'd be able to give you better feedback. Well, anyway it looks like so far so good! I'll check out the update when it drops; no rush

SirDipper:

alright thanks! (:
