Rewrite 5 − 6 using the additive inverse and display the new expression on a number line. (5 points) a 5 − (−6) A horizontal number line is shown with labels from 0 and ends at 16. A blue arrow begins at 0 and ends at 5. Another blue arrow begins at 5 and ends at 11. b 5 + (−6) A horizontal number line is shown with labels from negative 8 and ends at positive 8. A blue arrow begins at 0 and ends at 5. A red arrow begins at 5 and ends at negative 1. c 5 + 6 A horizontal number line is shown with labels from 0 and ends at 16. A blue arrow begins at 0 and ends at 5. Another blue arrow begins at 5 and ends at 11. d 6 − 5 A horizontal number line is shown with labels from negative 8 to positive 8. A blue arrow begins at 0 and ends at 6. A red arrow begins at 6 and ends at 1.

nikenike:

what need to know

jellybeanie:

?

441204:

The addition property lets u add a negative and positive number if.I.remember correctly

jellybeanie:

@441204 i feel like its d but im unsure

441204:

I mean 6 plus 5 is 11

441204:

It's negative 1

jellybeanie:

@nikenike yes but its not really helping me :/

441204:

Or 11 I'm.trying to figure out 5-6

441204:

Negative 1

441204:

It's b

jellybeanie:

oh. i actually thought it was d. tysm

441204:

Anytime

crispyrat:

Let me try to explain this in a single traing of thought. 5-6 is -1 so the additive inverse means that -1+? is equal to 0 Using basic math that would then be 1 since b is 5+-6 then you would get -1 and -1+-1 is -2 That means the answer is d because 6-5 is 1 and -1+1 is 0

crispyrat:

So @jellybeanie was right the first time

Hmm i seem to fin conflicting answers online so did the thing you use to answer questions specfically say you are right or is it just what you think? If it was the first then I would like to see the explanation cus this is a intresting problem

crispyrat:

Oh i see what I did wrong! it wanted the additve inverse of the number sepratley not the whole equation solved. This problem is intresting alright! Good luck on your other math problems jellybeanie

jellybeanie:

@crispyrat thanks
