mylesnewman:

I'm posting some notes and questions on this post about my agriscience fair project so myself and others can follow along and help me out a little bit. If I use the word 'lights', I mean LED's specifically To start, what color lights affect a fish's eating motivation negatively? What color lights promote nocturnal activity?

Gdeinward:

Most lights you ever see used to attract fish are white led lights. However, some other colors might do better.

Gdeinward:

Oh, and green light

Joe348:

what about natural light?

xxDeppressionxx:

that is because they are brighter, and they have more power in them.

mylesnewman:

I understand that green and white tend to attract fish more than any other colors, so I'm speculating about the affects of other colored lights.

XxXNessalulbaddieXxX:

light colors i agree with them all , O:

this doesn't really have anything to do with what I asked

Gdeinward:

mmm. if by natural light you mean the color you find in common LED house lights, then I dont think it would have a posiitve effect

Gdeinward:

Have you done proper research, as part of the scientific method?

xxDeppressionxx:

regular light doesn’t have that much power to them but they can when they are made the right way. The LED lights have more power in them because they are artificial lights.

XxXNessalulbaddieXxX:

u said lights to attract fish e.e right?

xxDeppressionxx:

the brighter the light the more it attracts.

xxDeppressionxx:

because more light means more heat.

Gdeinward:

heat has nothing to do with it

Gdeinward:

Its not necessarily the brightest light either

mylesnewman:

Let me explain. My research partner and I will each have a fish under a different color LED bulb to compare how their behaviors or eating habits may or may not be similar. I am not trying to attract fish. These subjects will be the same type of fish, same age, and will be living under this light, being fed the same food.

Gdeinward:

I see.

Gdeinward:

depends on what food your giving them. If a fish is hungry, it will eat, no matter the light.

mylesnewman:

Same tanks, same water type, same environment, same feeding times and tank cleaning times. Only difference is in color.

xxDeppressionxx:

actually it does, the heat in the light is what attracts things that are cold blooded like fish 🐟. Fish are cold blooded and they live in the water so the need the heat from the light that is why they come out to the surface during night because the light s are way closer that daylight.

XxXNessalulbaddieXxX:

ohhh my bad my bad i got caught on the light thing

Gdeinward:

Thats wrong.

I'm not trying to attract fish. They're living under the light.

LEDs are inherently not hot. During the day, during midday, fish will go deeper in water to escape the heat

xxDeppressionxx:

ok then how is the light hot when it is on for 10 minutes?

mylesnewman:

LED lights do not produce much heat at all.

Gdeinward:

I apologize, they get hot. But compared to an incandescent light bulb, they ar much cooler

Gdeinward:

Its usually after an hour or two, not ten minutes as well

mylesnewman:

I DON'T NEED INFORMATION ABOUT HEAT! THIS IS ABOUT FISH BEHAVIOR IN DIFFERENT LIGHTING!

mylesnewman:

It will not be that close to the subject

mylesnewman:

But it will be the only light source

XxXNessalulbaddieXxX:

she does not need anything about lighting

xxDeppressionxx:

Red Light Stimulates Feeding Motivation in Fish but Does Not Improve Growth

mylesnewman:

I think I'll test with red and blue LED's, red tends to promote eating motivation but less growth, and blue often promotes nocturnal behavior and comfort

can u let us know how it go e.e

xxDeppressionxx:

i hope you do well.

mylesnewman:

Thanks, I'll update soon as we have the subjects under lighting
