This should help with your question. (attached file) A graph will compress if the rate is less than 1, it expands if it is greater than 1.

well *y=f(3x)* the rate of 3 is going to expand the graph because its greater than 1.

Actually I was incorrect, I was going with *1/3x* but that actually causes it to expand. You were correct with A. For a compression of a graph `b>1` so for `y=f(x)` it would apply a factor compression of `3` being `y=f(3x)` I apologize, its been a while ;w;
