junkyard1:
a dead star is the collapse of the core and not making anymore energy
so therefore a blackhole must be a dead star right?

Well a black hole is a product of a star condensing to a singularity. The star itself is gone.

let's comment if it deals with the subject please (and informative)
563blackghost:
Now some dead stars go out in a soft way i would say, some examples are planetary nebulas. These are nebulas that were once stars, in its center is a white dwarf (a dead star), some great examples are the cateye, crab nebulae, hourglass etc.
