I need help with two questions. What is the surface area of the box if it is scaled up by a factor of 10? The surface area of my box is 106 And What is the volume of the box if it is scaled down by a factor of 1/10? the volume of the box was 40. I thought I had gotten them right but my teacher told me I was wrong :,)
This can be a bit tricky - if you scale up by a factor of 10, the surface area actually gets scaled up by a factor of 10*10. In general, using a linear scale factor k scales up surface area by k^2, since surface area is a square unit. With volume, you’re working with a cubed unit, so the volume gets scaled up by 10 * 10 * 10.
I can only help with one of these questions
which is the second
Yeah that is a bit tricky haha
Ohh ok!
Volume is length times width times height. So, you would need to do 9 times 3
Ahh just a minor correction, you’re scaling the volume down by 1/10 not 10 so it would be scaled down by (1/10)(1/10)(1/10)
Oh
So it would be like 1/10^3?
9 times 3 times 10
OHH
Then, you would divide by 10, because it is scaled down by 1/10
so then you would get ________
27 right?
yep
Ohhh that makes sense now lol thanks
no problem
