Sarah described the following situation: When more apples grew in the backyard, the pet cat stayed indoors for a longer time. Which of the following best describes the situation? This is an example of correlation because there is an obvious relationship between the two scenarios. This is an example of causation because apples cause cats to stay indoors. This is an example of correlation because apples cause cats to stay indoors. This is an example of causation because cats dislike apples.
am i right with D? or is it B?
@shadow am i right?
Does it say the cat dislikes apples?
true, im thinking C now
Why?
WAIT
B
my bad
You've illustrated you don't understand the difference c;
Correlation means that two variables are somehow connected. Causation means that X brought about Y, and that's something we know for a fact.
If you've ever heard the phrase, correlation doesn't equal causation, that's what it's referring to. My professors favorite example was how ice cream sales correlated with a higher murder rate. However this wasn't ice cream causing more murders...but ice cream was somehow connected to that causal connection. Instead, it was heat that ice cream was related to, that was actually influencing the murder rate.
Does that make sense?
yes
So what are you thinking now?
A
i think its the best choice here
I agree
thank you
