Question about English 3 7.01 evaluating a speaker

justplayedcards:

I can't decide between the quotes: What evidence is presented to support the claim? * "The doctors had come in the second time and told us that they didn't think Alex would make it—that they'd lost her several times, and they needed to know what we wanted to do. And my wife and I had to make the decision to let her go." "With kids that age, I think it's more of an addiction, you know, they have to get that text, they have to be talking to somebody all the time. She believed me in so many things, and she did what I told her to do the whole time she was growing up, but this one thing we couldn't get her to quit." "Just in my heart, I knew. She had taken a back road to school that morning. She wasn't supposed to take it, because it was a dangerous road. And that's where I found her truck, out in the field." and the following question What ideas are stated which are related to the claim? Choose all that apply: * 0/3 It is devastating to lose someone due to distracted driving Sometimes we think, "It won't happen to me." Distracted driving is dangerous. Taking a backroad to school can be dangerous.

justplayedcards:

oh heres the claim: Distracted driving kills. Safe driving starts with you.

justplayedcards:

I just have no ideas which quote to use

mdobbs6856:

I think it's either between the 2nd or third quote. What do you think?

justplayedcards:

Yeah I chose the second one but I haven't yet checked it

justplayedcards:

and for the second question I chose: It is devastating to lose someone due to distracted driving and Distracted driving is dangerous. What do you think?

mdobbs6856:

I think that sounds right. But I'm also looking more toward "Sometimes we think, "It won't happen to me.""

justplayedcards:

what should I replace with "It won't happen to me.""

justplayedcards:

because before both Sometimes we think, "It won't happen to me." and Distracted driving is dangerous. were wrong :\ together

justplayedcards:

when I submitted it

mdobbs6856:

I'm very confused.

mdobbs6856:

Can you choose 3 statements?

justplayedcards:

When I submitted BOTH: Sometimes we think, "It won't happen to me." and Distracted driving is dangerous. they were wrong. So should I just select JUST "It won't happen to me."?

mdobbs6856:

I think so. It's up to you though.

justplayedcards:

alright well I think It is devastating to lose someone due to distracted driving has no relation to the qoute so I think just Sometimes we think, "It won't happen to me." works

justplayedcards:

another question: The speaker uses the words "dangerous." "lost," and "last time" to create a ______________ tone. * Cautious Mournful Regretful Somone said it was cautious but not sure. Also I just selected "It won't happen to me."

mdobbs6856:

That one sounds like it could be cautious because when someone says "dangerous" they're usually like "Be careful" and that's cautious. "Lost" and "Last time" Kind of sound like regretful things so I would go with regret. Like if you weren't practicing safe driving you would regret it later and be cautious later but you first have to get through the regret stage. Am I making sense?

justplayedcards:

Yeah, thanks so much :D.

mdobbs6856:

You're welcome! Hope You Get them right!

justplayedcards:

yeah :)
