You are the shift leader at a fast-food restaurant. Two employees named Tonya and Johnny get in a fight. Tonya left out a bunch of food, but Johnny got blamed and had $15 taken off his paycheck. Now he wants Tonya to pay him back, but she is refusing. You call them both into the backroom to have a conversation. I just need two promises.
I had an event like this happen when I was an MIT at my old job, we (me and the actual manager) called the two people who were on shift that day and asked them about how food had been left out. We had to solve it by basically telling them that they would both get a split of the deduction on their paycheck and they both would have to clean everything they left out up. We only made one "promise" with them though, and that was that they wouldn't do it again, and if they did they knew the consequences. Now, that being said, in your case, it was a wrongful accusation to Johnny, so the other promise would likely be that Tonya would promise to pay Johnny back the amount that got deducted from his paycheck (the $15).
Thanks :)
Real world examples tend to help people better. 🙂
