potatopeelpie:

Plz help. nobody asked this specific question before. Which of the following is not an example of biased language? a. “You are too short to ride. You must be 5'0" for safety." b. “Are you deaf? I said pass the salt." c. “Move along, grandpa! You're taking up the aisle." d. The doctor will see you now. "What's his name?"

ThisGirlPretty:

Do you know what biased means?

potatopeelpie:

I do, but I don't know which one is right because both B and C looks biased. In speech biased language means words and phrases that are considered prejudiced, offensive, and hurtful

ThisGirlPretty:

Yeah I agree with that D;, i don't want to give the answer out but I have no way of explaining it correctly

potatopeelpie:

I'm so dead :(

ThisGirlPretty:

@extrinix think ye can help? D:

Vocaloid:

Keep in mind it is asking for which one is *not* biased . B and C are biased as you have correctly identified so you should try to decide between A and D. Between A and D, which is unbiased? As a hint one of them is biased because the person is making an assumption.

potatopeelpie:

OH! so the answer is D?

Vocaloid:

Hmm not quite. It’s subtle, but in D the person is assuming the doctor is male. A is the least biased so A is the best response.

potatopeelpie:

I thought A would be wrong because it is offensive to call someone short directly.

Vocaloid:

I suppose that’s true, they could probably just say “you need to be 5’0 ride”. I still think A is the least biased.
