Marlin24k:

How to create your 1st garden? All i know is how far to plant things and not to make the garden huge but when it's SUPER hot outside how many times should you water your vegetables or flowers? And when is gardening season over? And how should you keep your animals away from peeing on your flowers/vegetables?

Phantomdex:

Well a lot of these questions depend on where you live and what the weather is like during different times of the year.

HotPockets14:

its winter time so you can't plant now

Phantomdex:

Actually in some states, you can

Marlin24k:

I live in iowa and winter time is almost over so.

Phantomdex:

So I'd say you should probably prep a place that you want to grow things at that way when spring hits you can start growing.

Phantomdex:

Now does it get very hot in the summer there, but still rain quite a bit?

HotPockets14:

Yeah but make sure it warm and the ground is not frozen

Also correct because the ground will suck out any heat or water from the plants.

Marlin24k:

I help my dad garden so were just asking.

Phantomdex:

Of course, but again in the summer is it super hot with quite a bit of rain, or no rain?

HotPockets14:

my dad is a landscaper so I know a few thing. If it rain a lot were you live then don't water your plants cause the rain water will do it for you

Marlin24k:

I mean it never reaches 100 degrees

Phantomdex:

Right, you don't want to over-water them

Phantomdex:

Also if it doesn't rain a lot and you go to water them, the best times are early in the morning or in the evening so the water doesn't evaporate during the hot part of the day.

Marlin24k:

yeah

Phantomdex:

As for how to make sure your animals don't do anything to the plants, maybe put up a fence around the garden.

Marlin24k:

We did that last summer and nothing worked

Phantomdex:

Put it in a place the animals aren't allowed to go then maybe?

HotPockets14:

they make a special spray that keeps the animals stay away becuase they don't like the smell but it doesn't kill the plants. I don't know what the name is I have to ask my dad

Personally I think you should do research on the plant/flower your getting. Some flowers can't stand the heat, some love it. Some flowers don't need lots of water, some do. It all depends on the type. Also, about your animals. I'm not really an expert in that subject but maybe you can train them not to.

Appreciate it.

Creating your first garden can be an exciting and rewarding experience. Here are some basic steps to get started: 1. Choose a location: Find a spot in your yard that gets at least six hours of sunlight per day and has good drainage. 2. Prepare the soil: Remove any weeds or grass and loosen the soil with a rake or hoe. Mix in compost or other organic matter to improve soil quality. 3. Choose your plants: Decide what you want to grow and purchase seeds or seedlings from a local nursery or online. 4. Plant your garden: Follow the planting instructions for each type of plant and be sure to space them properly. 5. Water your garden: Water your garden regularly, especially during hot weather. As a general rule, most vegetables and flowers need about one inch of water per week. However, this can vary depending on the weather and the type of plant. It's best to check the soil regularly and water when it feels dry to the touch. 6. Harvest your crops: Once your plants start producing, harvest them regularly to encourage continued growth. Gardening season typically ends when the first frost hits in the fall. However, some plants can continue to produce well into the fall, depending on the climate. To keep animals away from your garden, consider installing a fence or using natural repellents such as planting herbs like mint, garlic or marigolds. You can also try using motion-activated sprinklers or placing chicken wire around the perimeter of your garden. Additionally, be sure to keep your pets on a leash or supervise them when they are outside to prevent them from wandering into your garden and causing damage.
