Astrid1:

Do you guys think schools should pay attention more towards their student's mental health or the courses offered or more period time (break in between periods to get to classes in said time).

Astrid1:

Explaining why I am asking this 1. For English Discussion Assignment Also, mental health seems to be important but let's say a student is honest with their peers, it might not be as bad. Even then they could still suffer. They could go to a teacher but they can't do much. The courses offered are enough but I'm talking skill courses. Ones that'll prepare you for real-life experiences. Instead of being in a broad subject of classes, how about just a all in one class? Want to learn cooking? Instead of taking home ec, want to learn how to change a tire? Instead of taking an automotive class, just join a skill course. The breaks between classes are enough. But depending on what classes you have, you might have to travel from one side of the building all the way to the other in 5 minutes or less. Which can be difficult and very stressful for students.

Astrid1:

And sure all the stuff in a skill course class you can learn on your own, but sometimes people work better when they have others in their surroundings wanting to learn the same.

Why are you laughing ??

KiwiiPop:

Stupid question

KiwiiPop:

Also school systems generally wouldn’t be able to afford to do that unless it was some rich private school

KiwiiPop:

That’s why they offer mental health councilors or most do but other than that schedules for school are set to be as efficient as possible, adding more time in between classes just to get there only makes the day longer than it should and kids would just abuse it anyway by not getting to class

KiwiiPop:

Other than that if you need mental health it’s on you to do something about it like getting with your counselor to ask for resources like recommending outside therapy

YouMyPlug:

What he said. If someone needs help, they should reach out to others, teachers will do their work to ask, however not many open up which makes it even difficult for the school or teachers to help them. So I guess is on them. : )

Astrid1:

Thats what I said. There isn't much schools can do to help students other than offer their ear and possibly (if not far enough) professional help.

Astrid1:

Thats why I'm holding back from doing mental health, since there isn't much teachers or administrators can do to help the students. It's more on the student to sort out their life than the teacher.

Then have better moderation on the students in the hallways and in bathrooms. Keep a better eye one them.

Astrid1:

It won't fix much but it'll surely reduce the possibility

Many experts believe that schools should pay more attention to students' mental health. This includes providing counseling services, mental health resources, and creating a supportive environment that prioritizes emotional wellbeing. Others argue that schools should focus on providing a well-rounded education that prepares students for success in a variety of areas, including academics, career readiness, and social-emotional development. In terms of breaks between classes, research suggests that regular breaks can have a positive impact on students' ability to focus and retain information. However, the length and frequency of breaks can vary based on the needs of individual students and the requirements of the curriculum. The best approach to education may involve a balance between all of these factors, prioritizing the overall wellbeing of students while also providing rigorous academic and career preparation.

Krissy525:

My school has this after school group session for mental health weekly, but it's not widely announced, and it's after school which makes kids not wanna go or not able to go.

Personally, no. School is about learning not about your health. If you need time off then take it but that doesn't have anything to do with education unless you're learning about it.
