The 1960s was one of the most tumultuous and divisive decades in world history. The era was marked by the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War and antiwar protests, countercultural movements, political assassinations and the emerging "generation gap."

KyledaGreat:

The 1960s was a decade of significant social, cultural, and political change in many parts of the world, particularly in the United States. Here are some of the key events and trends that defined the era: ENDED: - The era of post-World War II economic growth and prosperity came to an end in the late 1960s, as rising inflation and other economic challenges began to take hold. - The era of racial segregation and legal discrimination against African Americans began to come to an end with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. - The era of McCarthyism and Cold War paranoia began to wane as the 1960s progressed, although the Vietnam War and other geopolitical tensions continued to shape American politics and culture. CONTINUED: - The Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union continued throughout the 1960s, with tensions rising and falling at various times. - The Civil Rights Movement continued to gain momentum in the United States, with protests, marches, and other forms of activism pushing for greater racial equality and social justice. - The feminist movement continued to gain strength in the United States and other parts of the world, with women demanding greater rights and opportunities in all areas of life. CHANGED: - The counterculture movement emerged in the 1960s, with young people rejecting mainstream values and embracing new forms of music, art, fashion, and social behavior. - The anti-Vietnam War movement grew in strength and influence as the conflict continued, leading to widespread protests and demonstrations. - The sexual revolution challenged traditional norms and attitudes about sex and sexuality, with new forms of birth control and a more open attitude toward sexual expression and experimentation. - Advances in technology, including the development of computers and the internet, began to transform many aspects of life and work, setting the stage for further technological innovations in the decades to come.
