ElexusQuimby:

Is this a good ending to a play called Pygmalion?

ElexusQuimby:

My ending of the play goes like this. I know that Shaw has made it, so it's undecidable what Eliza does, so I'm writing about what she is doing. I'm just probably going to write it in a big paragraph or something. But… Here goes. I'm taking the route of My Fair Lady. “My Fair Lady is a musical based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion, with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Evilney flower girl who takes speech lessons from Professor Henry Higgins, a phonetician, so that she may pass as a lady. The original Broadway, London, and film versions all starred Rex Harrison."* Before leaving Henry Higgins forever, Eliza keeps contemplating whether or not to truly leave him and go to Freddy with the flower shop. Or to turn back around and run to Higgins. Who will know? But Eliza makes up her mind and runs to the door because she chose Higgins. He wasn't expecting this type of thing to happen, so he was stunned. Had no clue what was going on. Then Eliza ran to Higgins and hugged him. “I'm sorry, Henry, I am sorry," Eliza whispered in his ear during the embrace. Then a couple of days later, Henry Is standing tall in a gray suit, black hair slicked back, holding a bouquet of red roses. The sun is setting behind them, the evening is clear and cold. Henry Higgins knelt on one knee looking up at Eliza. Her face was pure, untainted by doubt or worry. Her dress was as white as her skin, her cheeks flushed pink as if she had been running a marathon or some type of race, and her strawberry-blonde hair pulled back in a bun. But what he does next is unthinkable … He asks Eliza to marry him. So obviously she said yes because Why shouldn't she say yes? The wedding went beautifully, and Eliza was radiant in a beautiful white dress. During the ceremony, Higgins felt an overwhelming sense of love as he looked upon her. She had truly grown into a confident woman who no longer needed his guidance or approval like she once had. As they recited their vows to each other and exchanged rings, Higgins's newfound love for Eliza swelled within him — quite contradicting all his reservations about marriage so many years ago. After the party, everyone danced and talked until it was dark. Mrs. Higgins noticed that her son was paying attention to Eliza's stalk. It seemed like he liked her more than just admiring her. It strengthened her resolve that these two should remain together for the rest of their lives, provided that they would acknowledge it. Moreover, when she observed them holding hands under one of the tables later on during dinner, with Pickering knowingly straying away from them both, but displaying a contented smile, it was evident that no other mother could have desired more than a long and prosperous life filled with happiness. And so, while others may still believe him to be incorrigible, deep down Professor Henry Higgins has finally come across someone with whom he unexpectedly shared something very special! At the end of the evening, after giving warm hugs goodbye, it seemed surreal. Still, perhaps finally actual marriage opportunities were beginning to look possible for our beloved pair due entirely to their intertwined journeys. This enabled change. So the moral of this ending is that Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle fall in love. She doesn't leave him for Freddy and the flower shop. She turns back around and runs back to her true love that she has found love for. So the ending for me is that they fall in love and that they just have the best life together. I know that is a cliche, but most love stories even then end that way. Unless it's a tragedy like Romeo and Juliet. Now that one was a tragedy. I think the first time I read Romeo and Juliet I cried because of their deaths. But back to the point at hand. This story ending took me s long to finish. Because I had no clue what to write or how to have them end. I did know if I should have Eliza nf up with Higgins or end up with Freddy like she originally said she would. But I came to the conclusion that she should end up with Higgins because everybody should have a happy ending I was researching this play. Then "My Fair Lady" popped up and I saw it and it is just this just with Higgins and Eliza ending up together. I took part in that and we ended up with this.
