For context, I have an Associates of Science degree in Psychology. I live in New York. My friend keeps telling me that pursuing a Bachelors in the same field (Psychology) would be useless because there’s not a lot of jobs for psychology majors, and if there are, it takes a longer time. And that we only get 2 more years of financial aid, enough to get a Bachelors. He keeps telling me to become a gym teacher, get a Bachelor’s in Physical Education, and do the rest in order to be a gym teacher. I wouldn’t mind being a gym teacher, but it isn’t something I’m passionate about. And if I do become one, I’d like to get a Bachelors of Psych, Health Ed, Health Psych, or Ed in the process. I don’t want to spend time just learning content that isn’t interesting to me. And I also want to have the versatility to go down a different career path later down the line. Yet, I want to get out into the workforce after getting a Bachelors as soon as possible. Even if that means being a gym teacher, just not with the Physical Ed major if that makes sense.
"Undergrad" is typically used to describe a STUDENT that has not yet gotten their bachelor's degree. Usually, to be able to teach in schools you would need some kind of degree in education. Though some school districts might not have this requirement, it just depends on where you're located. So you could get a bachelor's in psychology and be a counselor at a school *if* that is the only requirement.
