A poem about English-by Aeon
ENGLISH, language of the land, With words that weave a wondrous band. From Shakespeare's sonnets to modern day, Your beauty's still unfolding in every way. In syntax complex, with rules so fine, You shape our thoughts and make them shine. Homophones and homographs, you play tricks on our minds, And grammar tests keep linguists on their toes all the time. With vocabulary vast, like a treasure trove deep, Words to describe emotions, moments to seep. From 'thou' to 'you', from past tense to present too, You adapt with ease, for me and you. In poetry's rhythms and rhymes so sweet, Your melodic sounds our hearts do greet. Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, a classic of old, And Keats' Odes on Grecian urns, stories to be told. But English is more than words alone, For culture, history, and wisdom are sewn. From Anglo-Saxon tales of Beowulf's might, To the Queen's own language spoken day and night. So let us cherish this tongue so grand, And speak with pride, this beautiful land. For though she may be flawed, in syntax and spell, English is home for our thoughts to dwell
