martai:

A mutation causes a change in the sequence of amino acids that create a protein. What could occur as a result of this change in amino acid? I honestly forgot help meh ...

adrianluvvsyouu2:

This depends largely on the type of mutation. (Taking AP Biology by the way) Do you have any more information?

martai:

no..

adrianluvvsyouu2:

Theres maybe 5+ answers to this question then..

adrianluvvsyouu2:

What type of change in the sequence occurred? Was a nucleotide substituted, deleted, etc.

Luigi0210:

If you're talking *specifically* about amino acids and not nucleotides, then it would affect the function of the protein. The mutation could cause the protein to change its shape, thus altering/changing it's function. Ultimately, it could denature and render the protein non-functional overall. There are some instances where the amino acid change wouldn't have a big impact on the protein's function due to the mutated/substituted amino acid have similar prosperities to the original. Other changes may affect it's function slightly, but not completely denature the protein.
