I’m planning on starting a new hobby with making cologne, what are some tips, and possible ideas I should do?
Essence of m1lf is a good scent, I do suggest starting on perfecting that one (I will pay as much as you ask)
Was thinking of making a crown royal salted caramel scented cologne, but unsure if the fermentation process would take forever
I do have tips and notes you can take to start-
I’ve read online about how starting with making colognes would make you smell like a granny
lol
1. Understand the Basics of Fragrance Notes Colognes (and perfumes) are built on three main types of notes: Top notes: The first impression when you apply the fragrance, often light and fresh (e.g., citrus, lavender, mint). Middle (heart) notes: The body of the fragrance, developing after the top notes fade, and typically include floral, fruity, or spicy scents (e.g., rose, jasmine, cinnamon). Base notes: These linger the longest and provide depth and richness (e.g., sandalwood, vanilla, musk, amber). 2. Get the Right Equipment You don’t need too much to start, but here are a few essentials: Essential oils or fragrance oils: These are the building blocks of your scent. You’ll want a variety of oils for top, middle, and base notes. Carrier oil or alcohol: For blending the fragrance oils. Alcohol is commonly used for cologne (usually perfumer’s alcohol), but you can use a neutral carrier oil like jojoba or fractionated coconut oil for an oil-based version. Glass bottles: You’ll need these for storing your creations. Dark glass bottles (amber or cobalt blue) are ideal because they protect the oils from light, preserving their quality. Pipettes or droppers: To precisely measure your oils. Blending jars: For mixing small batches before you bottle them. 3. Experiment with Scent Combinations Start by creating blends that appeal to you. Here are some simple scent combinations to get you started: Citrus & Herbal: Lemon, lime, bergamot (top) with rosemary and basil (middle) and cedarwood (base). Spicy & Woody: Cinnamon, cardamom (top) with clove, nutmeg (middle) and sandalwood, patchouli (base). Floral & Fresh: Lavender, geranium (top) with rose, jasmine (middle) and vetiver, oakmoss (base). Start small, and as you test the combinations, keep notes on the ratios and ingredients. This helps to perfect your formula. 4. Let It Age After blending your cologne, allow it to age for at least 2-4 weeks in a cool, dark place. The scents will blend and mature over time, and you might notice changes or new notes developing. 5. Consider Fixatives Fixatives help extend the life of your fragrance, making it last longer on the skin. You can use natural fixatives like: Resins: Frankincense or myrrh. Musk: Natural or plant-based alternatives. Sandalwood or amber: These add depth and longevity to fragrances. 6. Make Personal Scents If you're feeling adventurous, think about scents that reflect personal experiences or places you love: Nature-inspired: Fresh, clean scents from the forest or sea, combining pine, eucalyptus, or sea breeze notes. Seasonal blends: A cozy autumn fragrance with cinnamon, clove, and vanilla, or a spring fragrance with floral notes like cherry blossom or magnolia. Travel-inspired: Fragrances inspired by a trip or dream destination, like Mediterranean citrus groves or a floral blend from a Japanese garden. 7. Be Aware of Skin Sensitivity Some essential oils can cause irritation or allergic reactions in sensitive skin. Always do a patch test before applying any new cologne directly to your skin. If you plan to sell or gift your cologne, including ingredients and a warning is always a good idea. 8. Record Your Recipes Since it can be hard to recreate a favorite scent without a recipe, make sure you keep a detailed log of your formulas, including the specific ratios of oils, types of carrier oil/alcohol, and aging times. 9. DIY Bottling and Labeling Once you’ve made a batch you love, you can create a nice presentation for your cologne. You can design labels or gift packaging for your creations. Personalizing them can make it feel like a luxury product!.................
I will consider these tips, thank you very much
