Ok so. I need help. So for one of my songs in choir, The Power of Love. We have to hold one of the "Love"s for a long time. But mid way I run out of breath. Does anyone know how I can keep it going without losing my breath??

thereneelg:

I'm a soprano btww.

PrincessGoldenCat67:

If it's a solo, idk, but, if everyone is doing it, just take as short break. No one is going to notice.

Unfortunately, I am a baritone so I don't know if this will apply to you, but I breathe through the diaphragm. This helps me sustain notes for longer and feel comfortable when singing notes. Additionally, try warming up before rehearsals so you're better equipped before you walk in the room. I did this during choir and it helped a ton.

Breathing exercises expand lungs in the long run. It wont have immediate results but try breath holding. One method for the exercise it to inhale for 8 seconds, hold for 16, exhale for 8. If that is uncomfortable then you need to build up to that level. Lung capacity can be trained.

well.. i used to play the double bass and they'd have these measures of whole notes all in one bowing, so what i usually do is portion out my bowings (so like ik how long i can do a note without losing intonation and all that) and sometimes playing lighter does give me good sound while not using much bow, so yeah (ahem. my explaining skills lol) but yeah.. like what addieroniandcheese said, it is trainable. just portion out and let little air out at a time (yk i shouldnt be talking. i dont know a thing about chorus) but treat it as swimming too ig (neither can i swim lol) but yk.. practice lke them.. also is it possible that u guys can decresando at the end or are u guys cresando-ing?

Im an alto in choir, so kinda an in-between haha. What I recommend is doing breathing exercises and try also doing breathing in, 1,2,3,4 seconds, and breathing out, 8, 16, 20, 24 seconds. that's what we do in choir to help out in our endurance. I also recommend not wasting breath in your notes, practice singing words with minimal breath. Don't stress!
