Electron configuration shows how electrons are arranged in an atom’s energy levels (or shells), sublevels, and orbitals. Electrons fill these in a specific order, starting from the lowest energy level to the highest — this is called the Aufbau principle.
Electron configuration shows how electrons are arranged in "shells" around an atom's nucleus, starting with the closest shell first. Each shell can only hold a certain number of electrons (max: 2 in the first, 8 in the second). Ex. oxygen has 8 electrons, so its configuration is 2, 6. 2 in the first shell and 6 in the second.
