OpenStudy (wolf):

solve for x and y 2x-9y=-23 8x-5y=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This looks like a great problem to do elimination in. Take your first equation and multiply it through by a constant which will allow you to vertically combine the two equations so that you are left with one variable. Once you've done that, you can plug in your answer to either of the two original equations to get the second variable's value. It looks like the x coefficients will be easy to cancel out. (Hint: the constant you multiply through is going to be negative.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x = 2, y= 3 use elimination method, multiply (1) by 4 and subtract from (2)

OpenStudy (wolf):

multiply by negative 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

either multiply by 4 and subtract OR multiply by -4 and add them........

OpenStudy (wolf):

oh ok thanks thats what i was confused about silly me

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

or just solve the first equation for x in terms of y, and plug it in into the second equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be more complex........

OpenStudy (wolf):

yea I got it now thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you welcome.........

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

lol I dunno, im just used to that..I learnt it that way see, gets more confusing for me, but whichever way is comfortable and wolf, u should fan sudhanshu_kmr
