Balance these equations: C4H10 + O2 -> H2O + CO2
this one you try it. The idea is make sure the number of element must be the same on both sides
i'm new to this.. what' is the element?
the number of every element in left and right side should be the same
you have C4H10 in the left side and C02 in the right side. so you multiply CO2 in the right side with 4. you'll get 4C02 in the right. the number of C in both sides now is the same
then still in C4H10, there are 10 H, but you only have h20 in the right side. Make it into 10H2O , so that the number of H in both sides is the same
the last step is to make the number of O in both sides the same. after equate the number of H and C on both sides, now you have C4H10 + O2 -> 10H2O + 4CO2. you have 10 O from 10H20 and 2x4 O from CO2, that means there are 18 O on the right side. on left side , you only have 2 O from O2, so you should add 16 O more to make it 18 O on the left side, and make it 9O2
the balance equation is C4H10 + 9O2 -> 10H2O + 4CO2
C4H10 + (3/2)O2 -> 5H2O + 4CO2
C4H10 + (13/2)O2 -> 5H2O + 4CO2
Both sides have 10 hydrogen, 4 carbon and 13 oxygen
i think your answer is the right one. i get the number of H on right side wrong
yep ,C4H10 + 13/2O2 -> 5H2O + 4CO2 is the right answer. 4 C, 13O, and 10H on both sides
Thanks for the help
