i'm in year 11 and i'm having alot of trouble remembering stuff about ions and stuff could anyone help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, ion is just an element with a different amount of electrons and protons, so they do not equal. So, an ion is charged; either negatively or positively. If there is an excess or protons, the ion is positively charged. Contrary, if the ion has more electrons, it is negatively charged. There are many things that can be done with ions, but that is a basic synopsis. Any other questions, just ask :]

excess *of* protons--sorry

Ion is an atom with a different number of electron from its original element and i dont think ion has to do anything with proton since number of protons are same as the atomic number. If an element has a +ve charge on it, it would want to lose that electron however element with -ve charge would want to gain it. For example: P has an atomic number of 15 and has 15 electrons but if the P has a charge of -3. It will become 18 electron since it gained 3. Hope i was able to help :)
