probability experiment and the corresponding
sample space. Give an example.

In science, say chemistry, we add various chemicals to study about reactions

Similarly, in probability - a branch of mathematics - we carry out experiments to measure the chance of an event occurring if future. This is called probability experiment.

We can say :

A probability experiment involves performing a number of trials to enable us to measure the chance of an event occurring in the future. A trial is a process by which an outcome is noted.

For eg if you actually toss a coin 100 times and note the number of times you get HEADS and the number of times you get TAILS, then you have carried out a probability experiment.

The sample space of an experiment is the set of all possible outcomes of any trial of the experiment to be conducted.

For eg. If you toss a single coins, then the two possible outcomes are H or T
So its sample space is given as

S = {H,T}

If you toss two coins simultaneously, then the four possible outcomes are HH, HT, TH, TT
So, its sample space is

S = {HH, HT, TH, TT}

Pls note, here HT is different from TH because
HT means Heads on first coin and Tails on second coin
and TH means Tails on first coin and Heads on second coin
