A ball dropped from a certain height rises after bouncing to 45% of its original height. After bouncing if the ball rises to 3 ft. What is the height from which it was dropped?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If x is the original height, then \[3 = .45x\] so \[3/.45 = x\] x = 20/3 = 6.666...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks. I got that also, but didn't think It was right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is correct. If you try it out. If the ball is 6.66666 high to begin with, then 45% of 6.66666 is 3 ft.
