(2x^2+x+1)/(x+1) Can someone help me divide these polynomials?
the way you asked it, there is no actual solution. It has a remainder. The thing will look like 2x-1+2/(2x^2+x+1)

Using just some long hand division, you can place the whole 2x^2 + blah blah under the roof of the division sign. Then you just divide it all out. You know that the first term is gonna be 2x, and then you divide it out. The (x+1) times 2x is 2x^2+2x, and then you subtract it from the first part of that polynomial. It comes out as -x. So, you look at that, and multiply by -1. Now, the part you subtract looks like (-x-1). Now, subtract that from the remaining polynomial, and then you have x+1 (distribute the negative), so you have a remainder of 2. Now, I realize I did mess up on the bottom of the fraction, it should be (x+1) not the polynomial. My apologies.
