OpenStudy (anonymous):

write an example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4*53/14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 3/14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what do you have to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to solve it and write it as a mixed numeral

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, I see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

53/14= ((14*3)+11)/14 = 3+11/14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no? than how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all u have to do is 4*53. Your remainder is the numerator and the number on the side is your whole number answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5 3/14 it a fractions there is no 53 it just 5 3/14

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what help do you need with this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hold on let me get the worksheet so you know what I am trying to ask

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, that would be the best :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help to understand what I am doing i am very bad at math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i see, i dont like this idea at all to use mixed fractions, I think it is confusing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but when you have 4(1/3) for example than think about it as addition, so it is 4+1/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 2/9 *9 is the first example

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 2/9= 4+2/9 (4+2/9)*9=4*9+2=38

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets do number 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am confused why did you add it twice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4 2/9= 4+2/9 is this clear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so when you write 4 2/9 *9 means that you multiply everything with 9 so it is =(4+2/9)*9 when you multiply a bracket you multiply with every term so 4*9+2/9*9=36+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok that makes sense that is what I was confused about

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets do 4 maybe it will be clearer after that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 3/5 * 2 7/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now that is (3+3/5)(2+7/9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

* is missing between the brackets

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is missing brackets

OpenStudy (anonymous):

have you done multiplication like this before?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not for a while

OpenStudy (anonymous):

* is missing (multiplication sign)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to multiply everything with everything (3+3/5)*(2+7/9)= 3*2+3*7/9+3/5*2+3/5*7/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I think I understand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you just have to add these together and the result is 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am going to bed now, post another question if you still need help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are the the / is the dividing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes it is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much for your help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get 11.2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3*2+3*7/9+3/5*2+3/5*7/9= 6+7/3+6/5+7/15=6+35/15+18/15+7/15=6+70/15=6+4=10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is not that easy to do, easy to make mistakes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there a simple way of doing this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no simple way of doing maths, use your brain and you will be fine.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

practice also helps :) good luck

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
