4 squared + 8 squared = C squared rounding it to the nearest tenth?

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Take 4 squared, add it to 8 squared, and then take the square root of that number. (because we want to "undo" c being squared.) Then just round that to one decimal place. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got the first part but hod i round it to a decimal place

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

So say we have a number like: 3.465645 Chop it off two places after the decimal: 3.46 Now look at the number AFTER 4 -- it's bigger than 5, so we round UP. :) final answer 3.5. (I just made up that number by the way, it's not related to your prob.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i just needa ask this question what's the difference between rounding to the nearest tenth and the nearest hundreth

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

So rounding goes like this: x.123 1 = tenths 2 = hundredths 3 = thousandths Rounding to the tenths = one number after decimal rounding to the hundredths = two numbers after the decimal rounding to the thousandths = three numbers after the decimal

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

Oh, RANDOM NOTE. If you like Horror, read "The Langoliers" by Stephen King. Also "The Shining". Both are insanely creepy. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks and for the question im kinda confused cause when i added and squared and stuff i didn't get a decimal

OpenStudy (mathteacher1729):

After you add the squared stuff you have to take the square root of it. I'm pretty sure that will give you a decimal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oooh okay i'll do that then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what if the number after the one after the decimal is less than 4 EX. 4.62 what do i do then
