log 7 ^(x + 2) = -2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(x+2)\log_{10} 7 = -2\] so \[x=[-2/(\log_{10}7)]-2 \]\[x \approx -4.4\]

I don't understand this one...can someone explain it to me..

I just used a basic property of logs: \[\log_{b} x ^{n}=n \log_{b}x \] For example \[\log_{10}10^{2} = 2\log_{10}10=2 \]So in your problem, once we bring the exponent down we can just solve for x.
