Racism came to an ugly head during the nazi regime and its horrors after the fighting had ended were there for the world to see. The advent and happy departure of the nazis showed what racist thoughts and actions could manifest themselves into and as such minorities were looked upon with less disrespect although still not without suspiscion. The Red Army in the Soviet Union had female combat battalions and this could be seen as undeniable evidence that male and female equality was an issue that was in need of addressing.
